ST. LAWRENCE CATHOLIC SCHOOL
FORENSICS PROGRAM

St. Lawrence’s Forensics Program offers students the opportunity:

  • To participate in oral interpretation and public speaking events
  • Gain self-confidence
  • Increase ability to communicate
  • Appreciate and enjoy a variety of literature

         – The Forensics program is available to students in grades 5-8.

There are two teams - a 7th and 8th grade team and a 5th and 6th grade team.
         – Students must try-out for the teams. Once the teams are composed, students are assigned to
categories and given pieces appropriate to the category.  The categories include: Drama, Prose,
Storytelling, Poetry, Declamation, Duo Interpretation, Multiple Interpretation and Impromptu
               (for the 7/8 team only).

            – Each team participates in a tournament sponsored by the Eastside Catholic Forensics League.
The league consists of 7 local area catholic schools – St. Thecla, St. Anne, St. Joan of Arc, St. Paul,
Our Lady Star of the Sea, St. Clare of Montefalco, St. Lawrence, as well as Grosse Pointe Academy.

            – The 7th and 8th grade team’s season begins with try-outs in late September and ends with a tournament
in early December. The 5th and 6th grade team’s season begins with try-outs in late October and ends
with a tournament in early February.

         – The practice commitment is every day at home with a parent, and once a week after school with
               the coaches.
