Catechesis, the act of handing on the Word of God, is an official ministry of the Catholic Church. Catechesis centers on sharing the Gospel message, presenting Christian values and principles, building community and leading people into service and prayer.
The St. Lawrence Continuing Religious Education (CRE) ministry provides opportunities for catechesis with the following religious education programs:
Childrens Liturgy of the Word: Children four years old through grade 4 are invited during the 10:00am Mass to listen and explore the readings at a child's level of understanding. This program is available from September through the end of April. Please watch the Forum for details.
Continuing Religious Education classes: Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade attend classes throughout the school year on Monday and Tuesday evenings. An age appropriate curriculum provides formal religious education for each grade, and sacrament preparation during second and eighth grades. Two consecutive years of formal religious education is required for the preparation of each sacrament. Additional information is available in the CRE Parent Student Handbook below.
Children who have special needs are welcome to attend one-on-one classes with specially trained catechists. Contact the CRE office for more information.
