ST. LAWRENCE CEMETERY

“This is the body once washed in Baptism, anointed with the oil of salvation, and fed with the Bread of Life. This is the body whose hands clothed the poor and embraced the sorrowing...Thus the Church’s reverence and care for the body grows out of a reverence and concern for the person whom the Church now commends to the care of God….” Reflections on the Body, Cremation, and Catholic Funeral Rites, Bishops Committee on the Liturgy

Historic St. Lawrence Cemetery is located on Auburn Road, a short half-mile drive northwest of the parish complex. The land, deeded from George and Regina Arcenbroon to Bishop Borgess, was consecrated the “St. Lawrence-Utica Cemetery” in 1878, over 130 years ago.
The oldest, legible marker is that of John Sullivan, dating back to 1887. Adjacent land has since been purchased and the cemetery—which includes “Angel of Peace Mausoleum” and the “Garden of the Resurrection Columbarium” totals more than six acres and over 3,000 graves, with room for expansion.
The cemetery grounds are lovingly cared for and continue to serve the community and parish family as a village landmark, a rich source of local Catholic history and place of peace and solitude, for generations.
